The world has seen a dramatic transformation in terms of technology. We have reached a point where the technology is updated every second of our lives and above all it has become an integral part of our lives. The present generation is not only tech savvy, but the entire lives is dependent on the technology. Things like virtual reality, animation, 3D printing, virtual gaming, robotics, artificial intelligence have become integral parts of our lives. This not only effects our lives but also challenges our educational system. It calls for a revival of what we are teaching at the schools, because it is fair to say that education system is the medium through which we prepare our future generation for the jobs, however the question is that is our present system of education really preparing the youth for employment.
A recent statistic says that 49% of the graduates in India are unemployable, the major reason being that they are educated but not skilled enough to professionally implement their knowledge into their jobs. The courses students opt for have no employment base and the technology has become obsolete making the educational course obsolete, however we are still running the courses blindly, in a way we are misleading our youth. India is said to be a young country with almost 52% of youth population but we are not aptly using our resources. The technology has become a game changer in recent times. Technology has revolutionized almost all the sectors in our country like automobile, education, medical, architecture, industries, defence etc. Infact the digital revolution has brought us on an international platform, providing us with more opportunities and advantage. However, we are not making the maximum usage of this. In the world of marketing for example the digital platform is seen to one of the most powerful tools to reach the masses, but we have a very small percentage of skilled workforce who are equipped enough to make use of it. The educational sector has seen a huge transformation through means of smart classes, but it still lacks in implementation.
It is estimated that the Indian Media and Entertainment Industry is set to expand at a CAGR of 12% over 2018-21, touching to Rs. 2,660.20 billion providing us with more attractive opportunities for employment and higher rate of investment in our country, but the real question is do we have a skilled workforce to fulfil the growing demand of the Media and Entertainment Industry.
The most important thing at this point is that we plan our education system in a way that would create a more employable youth than mere educated graduates. Even the youth has to be more aware about the opportunities surrounding them rather than just picking up conventional courses just because someone in the family or in the neighbourhood was successful in that profession. This is the only way through which we will be able to create a workforce for the future, thus creating a developed nation.
