Choosing a career after 12th can feel overwhelming, but the right decision starts with understanding your strengths, interests, and aspirations. By exploring exciting opportunities in Animation, VFX, Gaming, Graphic Design, Digital Marketing, and other emerging fields, students can discover careers that truly match their passion. With the right guidance and planning, every student can take confident steps toward a rewarding and successful future.

With limited knowledge of various careers that are available in the current scenario a student resolves to look onto his parents, neighbors, siblings, relatives and peers. All the stake holders with whatever little knowledge they have, suggest options which they feel is the best. It is not in accordance with the student’s best interest but what they would prefer for themselves. This is a very popular way of deciding a career in our country. With the new exposure to internet some students might resolve to looking out for options in the internet but, firstly the number of students opting for this is less and secondly the huge amount of information available on the internet confuses the child more than helping him out and at the end the student circles back to the old traditional method of taking advice from whomever is available. This way a student ends up with choosing a career that he has no interest and even more so minimum aptitude in because he/she is choosing on the basis of what others think is the best career and not on the basis of what he wants to do.

Another scenario is that the student is not aware about the current industry trends and what career options are available in the present times. In bargain he ends up choosing careers that will not use his skill set efficiently. This hampers the student’s growth in the field as he/she might end up switching career or dropping out of the current situation he/she is in.

The Solution - Chose What You Are Good At

There is no specific solution as every individual is different and so are the career option available. Rather there are ways in which a student can choose a career based on his/ her preference and excel in whatever he/she does. The key mantra is “DO WHAT YOU ARE BEST AT”. Usually, our outlook is let’s opt for a career that has a huge market value. But what about our aptitude, do we have the bend that the career requires. For e.g. A very common trend is to choose science as a subject, the very common saying is that if you choose science as an option, it will open your doors to many careers, however if you really think about it securing 50% or 60% will not qualify you to appear for many competitive exams as the criteria is high. And also if you want to choose careers like civil services or design in future how will science as a subject help.

Here is what you should do -

1.      Self-analysis – Self-analysis is the best of all tools. No one knows you better than you do. You know your interests. You know that what you are good at. You know the subjects that you love and have a bend for. Explore the career options related to that subject. For e.g. if you are very good in drawing or have an artistic bend look for careers which will help you enhance your skills. Game design, animation, graphic design, fashion technology and designing are various career options that you can choose from.

Ask yourself –

  • Which subject do you like the most?

  • What do you prefer to do (Sit in an office or go out and work)?

  • What is that you are good at?

You need to know your strength and weakness to choose a right career.

2.      Explore careers of your interest – After you know about yourself you need to start exploring the career related to your interest and aptitude, e.g. –

  • SCIENCE: Engineering, data analytics, biotechnology, medicine etc

  • COMMERCE: Law, accountant, financial advisor, economics, judiciary, data analysis

  • ARTS: Law, Journalism, Social Service, Animation and Design, Mass communication

  • EMERGING FIELDS: UI/UX, Multimedia, AI, Digital marketing, Game design

3.      Research about each career – After you have a definitive mind set on the career you have to do thorough research about the career. You need to know

  • Qualification required for the career

  • Job roles

  • Colleges/ institutes providing those courses

  • Placement / success rate of the involved institution

  • Salary scale

  • Future demand in the market

4.      Seek Professional help – Talk to a professional that is either related to the field or a counsellor, teacher who would provide you with researched and legit information. Usually, real world insight is more beneficial than online information.

5.      Consider future opportunities – It is very important that you explore the future that the career holds. Whether future advancements would affect the career and what are the actions that can be done to make it sustainable in future.

  • What are the opportunities for further studies?

  • How will automation affect the career?

  • What is the opportunity for industrial growth?

  • What is the global demand of the career?

  • What are the employment trends related to the specific career?

6.      Create an action plan- It is very important that you plan your future after you have shortlisted some careers that you could pursue.

  • Identify the college/ Institute

  • Identify the entrance exam or criteria that is required

  • Prepare for application deadlines

  • Prepare for skills required for that specific career

  • Research about the institution (Placement/ success rate/ background/ legal details)

Believe in Your Potential

More than anything the most important thing is to believe in yourself. Every individual is unique and has some or the other talent. If you are not good in science or in studies as it is, it is not the end of the world. The world has evolved dramatically; there are so many career options available. All that is required is that you believe in yourself and make a right decision based on your aptitude and interest. Don’t run behind fulfilling others’ expectations because no one knows you better than you do.

Every student is unique, with their own strengths, interests, and talents. The key to a successful future is not simply choosing the most popular profession, but finding a career that matches your passion and abilities.

Whether you're exploring career options after 12th arts, looking for the best career after 12th commerce, or considering fields like Animation, VFX, Graphic Design, Gaming, Digital Marketing, Engineering, Law, or Medicine, the right choice is one that inspires you to learn, grow, and excel.

Today's world offers more opportunities than ever before. Creative careers in Animation, Visual Effects (VFX), Graphic Design, Gaming, and Multimedia are opening exciting pathways for students who want to turn their creativity into a profession.

Take time to understand your strengths, explore your options, and make an informed decision. Believe in yourself, trust your abilities, and choose a career that reflects your aspirations—not just the expectations of others. The most rewarding careers are often built by people who have the confidence to follow their own path.
